Overview

Minecraft Legends is a 3rd person action strategy game in the world of Minecraft. Piglins have invaded the Overworld and it’s up to the Player to save the inhabitants from the Piglins’ corruption. I worked on the PvP (player vs. player) game mode where Players battle against each other in up to 4 vs. 4 combat - but watch out - the Piglins are ever present in PvP and when night time falls, beware of their aggression!

I led the PvP team where my focus was to deliver a fun, engaging, and ever-changing multiplayer experience in Minecraft Legends. This small but mighty team consisted of engineers, designers, UI/UX, and others. It was my job to help establish the vision for PvP, work with our team to execute on that vision, as well as establish a trusting relationship with our partners in Microsoft & Mojang. I was also key in helping design the core enemies, AI, and combat in Legends before leading the PvP team.

Responsibilities

  • Led the vision & overall design of the PvP game mode

  • Worked with core gameplay designers to establish our combat, enemies, player actions, and structures

  • Mentored and guided designers on economy and Piglin balancing

  • Scripted mobs, enemies, AI (ie: targeting priorities, attacks, etc.), and structures all in the Bedrock Engine (Minecraft’s own custom engine)

  • Formed a trusting working relationship with publishers to deliver the PvP game mode at high quality
